Singing Lessons

Obsession lets up.
I can attend.
All get one.
Plate passed —
Copper pennies hot
From the cement seam —
Each to each.

You know them all,
Yes.
And hear her,
Stirring,
And burning,
And burning.
And I want her
Soft and enfolding arms,
Cricket song
And watermelon kiss.

No lover
Like September,
But now is not time.
So pause a moment,
Let the salt collect,
Evaporate
And cool
As the breeze
Of your movement stirs
Around you.

Stop here,
Sit and grow roots
A while,
And listen —
A grosbeak
Gives singing lessons
To a robin.
